Kannout, M. & Henneghan, G. (2024, May 13). DePaul University Pediatric Coping, Health, and Illness (CHILL) Lab. [Poster Presentation]. 2024 DePaul Psych Night, Chicago, IL, United States.

Abstract

This presentation will describe an internship experience at the Pediatric Coping, Health, and Illness (CHILL) Lab at DePaul University. The Pediatric Coping, Health, and Illness Lab (CHILL Lab) is committed to exploring the relationship between environment, physical health, and mental well-being among children and adolescents. Many CHILL Lab members participate in various research projects, presenting findings at both local and national conferences while contributing to peer-reviewed publications. Most of the research at the CHILL Lab can be done via a remote setting, with weekly meetings to collaborate with team members.

In the research lab, we prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion, specifically in pediatric psychology. The lab values both the diverse identities of the team members and research participants, and aims to create an environment where everyone feels safe and respected. Several ongoing research projects in the fields of stress, pain, health disparities, chronic illness, and undergraduate health behaviors are taking place. The main focus is on understanding the relationship between stress and pain experiences, particularly in pediatric populations. Researchers are analyzing data from pediatric pain clinics and national datasets to investigate how stressors impact pain symptoms and potential biomarkers.

Application information for future interns will be incorporated in the conclusion of the presentation.
